The ACS library is not a public library. It is intended for internal use, as a support for the scientific activity of archivists. Access to the library is also allowed for those who carry out research on the documentary resources of the Institute.

Opening hours:

Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 6.45 pm.

The bibliographical information and borrowing services are open Monday to Friday, 9.30am to 1pm, and Tuesdays and Wednesdays until 6.30 pm.

The withdrawal of bibliographic material is available Monday to Friday at 10am and at 11.30am.

Our current resources, estimated to be approximately 180, 000 items, include monographs, periodicals, official proceedings, pamphlets, microforms and CDs.


Undertaking research

In undertaking research, the scholar may consult the attendant on duty for the use of research tools, card catalogues and the data base of monographs. Since March 2004 the library enjoys the shared cataloguing of the National Library Service (Servizio Bibliotecario Nazionale SBN).

Over 12,000 repertories are available for free consultation. Periodicals may be searched for using the card catalogue, and on the on-line Italian Periodical Catalogue database (ACNP), managed by the Interlibrary Centre of the University of Bologna (CIB) and from the National Research Council (CNR) (
